Melissa Thompson, MSW, LCSW, C- ASWCM believes in the power of potential. She has focused her life’s work on supporting her clients to find their authentic voice and to create their best quality of life. Melissa has a unique ability to identify each persons’ strengths that can then be activated to achieve their goals. She brings a compassionate and empowering approach to guiding people through their healing journey.
Melissa has developed a deep understanding of the issues faced by her clients and their loved ones through her extensive experience working in medical and mental health settings. She has facilitated groups, lead teams, supervised other professionals, and managed social service programs throughout her career. Her passion is counseling and education with adults, couples, and families to inspire the positive changes that they wish to see in their lives.
Melissa believes in the power of creativity. She draws upon art, music, and other experiential methods to help clients express their feelings. She uses an integrative therapeutic approach, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Therapies, and Play Therapy.
Melissa received a master’s degree in Social Work from Colorado State University. She is licensed in the state of Florida as a Clinical Social Worker and she is certified as an Advanced Social Work Case Manager through the National Association of Social Workers. Her warmth and humor make Melissa an engaging speaker and educator as an adjunct faculty member with the Florida Gulf Coast University Department of Social Work. Melissa specializes in treating issues such as depression, anxiety, aging, parenting and family conflict, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, as well as grief and loss.
