Kerriann Now is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Addiction Professional (CAP). She grew up in New York City, New York and Sarasota, Florida. She received her Bachelors in Psychology from Florida International University. After graduation, she pursued her Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Hodges University. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate studies, she worked at a dually diagnosed substance abuse treatment center where she helped various people with different backgrounds and issues. She received her Masters Degree in 2019 and graduated with a Summa Cum Laude.
Specialties and certifications: Kerriann has been working in the human service field for nearly fifteen years. Before she moved back to Florida from New York City, she worked as a Crisis Intervention Specialist and Outreach reaching the underserved populations. Once she moved to Florida and concentrated on her education, she worked for several years with the substance abuse population as well as individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, dissociation, mood disorders, personality disorders, relationship conflicts, adjustment disorders and psychoactive disorders. While working with diverse population and complex backgrounds, Kerriann noticed there was a greater need for people to “feel relief faster” regarding their unresolved traumas and began learning more and more about the benefits of evidence based trauma techniques. In 2018, she decided to get trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and became fully independently certified in EMDR in 2021. Kerriann believes people have the innate ability to move forward from their past negative experiences and since implementing EMDR into her therapeutic repertoire, she has been able to help hundreds of people move forward in their lives and live more fulfilled, joyful, peaceful and balanced lives.
Future Goals: Kerriann continues to further educate herself in evidence based trauma techniques and she has also been trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). She has reached level 3 thus far and is planning on getting fully certified in the near future. IFS is praised in Bessel Van Der Kolk’s famous book, “The Body Keeps the Score.”
Personal Beliefs and Hobbies: Kerriann is a motivated individual, loves to learn and challenge herself. She is passionate about helping people and loves to see the change in people. She does not hold any judgement and wants therapy to be a pleasant and moving experience. She wants her clients to feel validated and values the alliance of a therapeutic relationship. She understands that when people experience trauma or are in pain, it can be very difficult to trust another person, therefore she respects individual boundaries and does everything she can to provide a safe/calm environment. Kerriann’s hobbies include spending time with her family, relaxing with her dogs and cats, traveling and weight lifting.
{ EMDR- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing evidence based trauma technique. “EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes.” To learn more about EMDR click here: }
